Weil-McLain is one of Hoffner Heating & Air Conditioning’s primary boiler install brands across the Pittsburgh metro. From cast-iron sectional boilers to high-efficiency modulating-condensing units, we install, service, and maintain the full Weil-McLain residential and light-commercial lineup. With more than a century of US-made boiler manufacturing and a strong Pittsburgh-area parts network, Weil-McLain is what we recommend when an older hydronic system is due for replacement.
Our boiler process starts with a load calculation tailored to hydronic vs forced-air heat distribution. We measure radiator output, baseboard linear footage, and home heat-loss to size the boiler correctly. Installation includes gas-line sizing, venting to code (B-vent for atmospheric, PVC or stainless for condensing), near-boiler piping per manufacturer spec (primary-secondary loops, low-loss headers as needed), expansion tank pre-charge, low-water cutoff installation, and zone valve or circulator pump configuration. Combustion analysis at commissioning verifies clean burn. EPA Section 608 universal certified for any related refrigerant work. Hoffner registers the manufacturer warranty on the day of completion.

Does Hoffner install Weil-McLain boilers in Pittsburgh? Yes. Weil-McLain is one of our two primary boiler install brands. We install the full residential lineup including cast-iron sectionals (CGa, EG series) and modulating-condensing units (Ultra, Evergreen series).
What’s the difference between a cast-iron and a condensing Weil-McLain boiler? Cast-iron sectionals are durable, simpler, and lower up-front cost; they vent atmospherically and run at 82-84% AFUE. Condensing boilers (Ultra, Evergreen) modulate burner output to match load, achieve 95+ AFUE, and require PVC or stainless venting. The right choice depends on home age, ductwork, and budget; we walk you through both at the in-home estimate.
How long does a Weil-McLain boiler last in Pittsburgh? A well-maintained cast-iron Weil-McLain boiler routinely runs 25 to 30 years in Pittsburgh homes. Condensing units typically last 15 to 20 years and benefit most from annual service.
What’s the warranty on a Weil-McLain install through Hoffner? Weil-McLain offers a limited lifetime warranty on the heat exchanger on cast-iron residential models when properly registered, and a 12-year limited warranty on condensing heat exchangers. Hoffner registers every install on the day of completion and adds a 1-year labor warranty on installation work.
How much does a Weil-McLain install cost in Pittsburgh? Pricing varies by model and home complexity. A standard cast-iron replacement on existing near-boiler piping runs in a different range than a full condensing-unit conversion with new venting. We provide a flat-rate quote after the in-home assessment so you see the total before approving the work.
We don’t upsell, we listen, recommend smart solutions, and stand behind our work.
30+ years of local experience means we know what Pittsburgh winters throw at you.
We focus on performance, efficiency, and long-term comfort, every single time.
Transform your Western Pennsylvania home’s indoor air quality with professional air scrubber installation. These advanced systems actively remove airborne contaminants, allergens, and odors from your home’s air supply, creating a healthier living environment for your family. Air scrubbers work by generating ionized particles that attach to pollutants, neutralizing them before they can circulate through your HVAC system.
In the diverse climate of Western Pennsylvania, where seasonal changes bring varying air quality challenges, air scrubbers provide year-round protection against dust, pollen, pet dander, and volatile organic compounds. These systems integrate seamlessly with your existing furnace installation or can be added to current setups without major modifications. The technology is particularly beneficial for homes with family members who suffer from allergies or respiratory conditions.
Our certified technicians ensure proper sizing and installation, maximizing the effectiveness of your air scrubber system. Our thorough inspections examine all system components, from ductwork integrity to electrical connections, ensuring your equipment operates safely and efficiently throughout the region’s demanding seasonal changes.
Professional inspections are crucial for identifying potential issues before they become costly repairs, particularly important given the heavy usage HVAC systems experience during Western Pennsylvania’s cold winters and humid summers. Our certified technicians evaluate system performance, check for proper ventilation, assess energy efficiency, and identify any safety concerns that could affect your family’s wellbeing.
During inspections, we examine connections to your furnace installation, test thermostat calibration, and verify proper airflow throughout your home’s ductwork. These comprehensive evaluations often reveal opportunities for energy savings and system improvements. Regular inspections complement HVAC tune up services and help maintain warranty coverage on your equipment. Our detailed reports include recommendations for air conditioner replacement when systems reach the end of their useful life, ensuring you make informed decisions about your home comfort investments.
When your heat pump fails in Western Pennsylvania’s unpredictable weather, professional repair services restore efficient heating and cooling to your home quickly and effectively. Protect the health and functionality of your equipment with bi-annual service from Hoffner Heating & Air Conditioning!
The CGa series is Hoffner's most-installed Weil-McLain unit in older Pittsburgh homes with atmospheric venting through an existing chimney liner. Cast-iron sectional design means the heat exchanger can be field-serviced and individual sections replaced if needed, which extends the unit's effective life. CGa runs at 82 to 84 percent AFUE, which is the right efficiency tier for homes where you do not want the complexity or up-front cost of a condensing unit. We install the 50,000 to 280,000 BTU range across single-family homes and small multi-units in the Pittsburgh metro.
The EG series is Weil-McLain's steam-capable cast-iron line. Many older Pittsburgh-area Victorian and pre-war homes still have one-pipe or two-pipe steam radiator distribution that's well worth preserving (steam systems are quiet and even-heating once balanced). The EG handles steam pressure ranges from 0.2 to 15 PSI, and we set up the near-boiler piping per Weil-McLain spec to keep the system quiet and free of water hammer. Steam systems require specific knowledge to install and service correctly; we have the experience to do it right.
The Ultra Series gives homeowners 95-plus AFUE without going to a fully modulating burner. It vents through PVC or polypropylene direct-vent, which means the chimney can stay capped and a side-wall vent termination replaces it. The Ultra is a strong fit for homes where the existing chimney is in poor condition, or where the homeowner wants the efficiency improvement without the more complex commissioning of a fully modulating unit. We pair Ultra installs with outdoor reset controls for additional efficiency gains.
The Evergreen line is Weil-McLain's flagship modulating-condensing boiler with turndown ratios up to 10:1. That means the burner can throttle from 10 percent to 100 percent of rated output, which dramatically reduces short-cycling on mild Pittsburgh shoulder-season days. Evergreen pairs with outdoor reset controls and can be plumbed into multi-zone or radiant-floor distributions. We typically install Evergreen in newer Pittsburgh-area homes or in mid-century renovations where the homeowner is investing in long-term efficiency and indoor comfort.
New installation. Full boiler replacement including unit, near-boiler piping per spec, expansion tank, low-water cutoff, pressure relief valve, circulator pump, zone valves or zone circulators as needed, gas line sizing, venting (atmospheric, direct-vent, or stainless category-III), combustion analysis commissioning, warranty registration on day of install.
Annual boiler service. Water chemistry test, low-water cutoff function check, pressure relief valve test, expansion tank pre-charge verification, combustion analyzer reading on the burner, circulator pump amp draw, flue draft check, visual inspection of all piping joints, control settings verification. Recommended every year before the heating season.
Repair, in and out of warranty. Our technicians carry common Weil-McLain parts on the truck: ignitors, flame sensors, ignition controls, gas valves, draft inducers, circulator pumps, zone valves, expansion tanks. For warranty repairs we handle the Weil-McLain claim paperwork.
Steam boiler service. Specialized skill set required: skim the boiler at install, check water column glass and Hartford loop on near-boiler piping, verify proper steam pressure cycling, inspect main air vents and radiator vents, water-feeder service. Many Pittsburgh-area contractors will not work on steam; we will.
Indirect water heater integration. Pair a Weil-McLain boiler with an indirect-fired water heater for combined space and domestic hot water. Highly efficient compared to separate units.
Weil-McLain warranties vary by model. Cast-iron residential boilers carry a limited lifetime warranty on the heat exchanger when properly registered, with parts covered 10 years. Condensing units (Ultra, Evergreen) carry a 12-year limited warranty on the heat exchanger and 5 years on parts. Hoffner registers every install on the day of completion. We add a 1-year labor warranty on installation work. Maintenance plan members get extended labor coverage and priority service during peak heating season.
Both are primary install brands for Hoffner. Here's how we typically advise Pittsburgh homeowners:
Choose Weil-McLain when: You're replacing an existing hydronic boiler (especially cast-iron sectional), have steam radiator distribution, want the longest manufacturer heat-exchanger warranty, or are renovating an older Pittsburgh-area home where preserving the radiator system matters.
Choose Rinnai when: You want a combi unit handling both space heat and on-demand domestic hot water, have limited space for a separate water heater, or are doing a smaller / tighter-envelope home where modulating output and high turndown matter most. See our Rinnai installations page.
We walk through both options at the in-home estimate so the decision fits the home, budget, and goals.
